Have you decided to rent an apartment around campus instead of staying in the dorms for another year? If so, it helps to consider the following things when looking at apartments.

Proximity To Campus

One of the biggest concerns may be how close that apartment is to your campus. As you can imagine, prices typically get a bit higher as to live close to campus since it makes getting to class so much easier. Think about how you are going to get to class and how being close to campus may improve that. Will you be driving and still need to pay to park in the student parking lot, or is it close enough to walk or bike?

Number Of Roommates

Apartments come in all types of sizes, ranging from single bedroom apartments to potentially 4 or 5 bedrooms. The more bedrooms that you have means that you need more roommates to fill out the space to help reduce your rent. Do you think that you're able to find a lot of roommates that you are willing to live with, or would you prefer a smaller space with fewer people to keep things quiet? It's another big factor to think about since it impacts your daily living the most.

Bathrooms

When you figure out how many roommates you want to live with, think about the number of bathrooms that the apartment has. The number of people that you need to share a bathroom with can make it easy or difficult to get ready in the morning. While some apartments may have individual bathrooms for each bedroom, others will force you to share a single bathroom.

Kitchen Size

The size of a kitchen should be appropriate for the number of roommates you have. After all, many college students still cook for themselves and not as a group, so you'll run into situations where people are storing their own food and cooking their own meals at the same time. Make sure that there is plenty of storage and counter space so that the size of the kitchen is not an issue.

Parking

What is the parking like at the apartment complex? Will you for sure have a dedicated spot that you can park your car, or need to street park somewhere in the area? Are there spaces for guests to park when they come to visit, or will they struggle to find a place to park their car? You may find that the parking situation can play a big role in how easy it is for you and others to get to your apartment.
